Based on 640 reviews

KANJYUKUYA is widely praised for its authentic ambiance, situated in a traditional 19th-century farmhouse that adds to the overall dining experience. The restaurant is noted for its generous portion sizes and high-quality dishes, particularly the local specialty Hōtō and tempura sets. English menus and attentive, friendly service enhance accessibility for international visitors. Outdoor seating with scenic mountain views is popular but often busy, encouraging early arrival. While most feedback is positive, some guests mention minor issues such as occasional dish replacements and one less-favored dessert option. Overall, KANJYUKUYA is regarded as a hidden gem offering hearty, flavorful Japanese regional cuisine in a charming setting.

This place was wonderful. Menu's are available in English and Japanese. The servers, as most in Japan are, were quick, friendly, and kindly obliged to answer any questions I had. There is seating indoors and outdoors. The outdoor seating is often filled, so I suggest getting there before they open for good seating outside. The Hoto Set shown in my photos gave that "homely" food taste you get when eating a good bowl of homemade soup on a cold day at home. The atmosphere indoors was warm and inviting, especially having visited on a winter day. Highly recommend to those who are traveling near Mt. Fuji and wish to stop for a nice hot dish.

Really great shack to get some hearty Brit by houto! The portion size was very big and could easily feed 2 people and I eat a fair portion myself! The vegetarian meal of dry udon noodles that they advertise does have meat in the dipping source so be careful. Some of the bowls were dirty which they kindly replaced with clean ones. The view of the mountain is great and there is outside seating. It’s cheap and cheerful!

Away from the touristy area and truly is a hidden gem. The food quality is top class and the portion sizes are good. Try the Fuji soda and Hoto tempura sets. The unagi set also very good I would not get the peach ice cream however. Not that good and difficult to spoon. They have English menus and they are quite friendly

KANJYUKUYA is a charming traditional 19th-century farmhouse restaurant just steps from the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum—and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The building itself is full of character, with rustic wooden beams and a cozy, authentic atmosphere that immediately transports you to another time. We came here to try the local specialty, Hōtō, and it did not disappoint. Served piping hot in a large iron pot, it’s a hearty noodle stew packed with vegetables in a miso-based broth. Be warned—it’s a very generous portion! One order is easily enough for two people, so don’t make the same mistake as the couple next to us who each ordered one and looked genuinely overwhelmed when it arrived. We also ordered the vegetable tempura, and I highly recommend it. The batter was light and crispy, and their homemade tempura dipping sauce took it to the next level—flavorful and perfectly balanced. KANJYUKUYA offers an excellent introduction to local cuisine in a warm, welcoming setting. It’s a great place to relax after exploring the area, especially on a cooler day. Highly recommended for anyone wanting an authentic and filling meal near Lake Kawaguchi.

The cold udon was absolutely delicious! The udon noodles were perfectly chewy and had a wonderful texture. I ordered the large portion, but it was so tasty that I could have eaten even more. Highly recommend trying this dish

Such a cool spot! We ate here for lunch and there was a long wait because it was pretty busy, but they were very friendly and the food was so delicious. Very traditional meal and such a cozy vibe.

Flat chewy udon in a hearty miso-like broth with vegetables of all kinds. The tempura tasted crispy and light. A wonderful place to have lunch and try a regional specialty of the area. If you get outdoor seating, you can even have a view of Mt Fuji. The staff were polite and courteous too. It was a great lunch pitstop and first meal when we arrived in Kawaguchiko. FYI, the serving is huge and enough for 2 small eaters.

Great tasting Hōtō noodles. These are traditional noodles (prepared in the style of dumplings, the noodles have great texture, not too soft and not too hard) boiled in miso soup wnad wild vegetables. I think the miso and the vegetables are what elevated this dish from normal noodles to something unique. I got the pork Hoto with tempura. I think this dish is perfect for cold winters. The portions are very generous. I order a dish. I’m so full and I hadn’t even finish half!! Prepare to share. There’s also peach gelato(more like peach sherbet). Perfect for summer
